Dr. Burns says that it’s really important to always believe that you will be fine without the company or love of another person. Never be desperate or needy. Then when you don’t need others, others will need you. It’s a paradox.  I made a list the other day of good things about me and also a list of weaker things about me in my opinion. I surprised myself with coming up with a...

Thoughts on losing weight: I thought it was impossible, but I guess it’s not. I put the lie to my negative thought. My bodytrace scale is really helping me to lose weight—or so it seems. It helps me to think about eating less so I can please my scale and see my downward trend continue. I love this whole self tracking thing. I want to track more!

thats the funny thing about love, you cant control it. you cant control who you love, or when you love them. love has seemingly gone rogue. or has it always been? from here thoughts:  What does it mean gone rogue. it has a nice ring.

s*** MY dad says, from his blog: It’s not barbecue, but today I had the pleasure for the first time of tasting lilacs. I was inspired by a kid’s book that said that to find out why bees like the taste of sweet things you should squeeze the nectar of some nettle plants. I took Aubrey to the Bronx Botanical Gardens and we smelled the lilacs. By far the best smelling were the hyacinth...

here’s the right mind set: you are SUPER hot, so is he. it’s like a dance. you flirt a little, he flirts a little, but you pull away at the end… like trying to get a cat to come sit on your lap. duh you want it to come be cuddly, but it will prob only come if you a) make it obvious that you have interest in it AND b) let it know you don’t need it. you’re just as good...

These pictures should be flashed one after the other to create a mini movie of sorts. Something with drugs probably. And the mafia probably. And prostitution. I haven’t seen enough movies to know what I am talking about.  These are from this blog JJJJound.com. I don’t know where he finds all these pics, but i think reading his posts are like watching a...

Important Ideas from The Chapter Getting The...
Words from the guru: “You may think, ‘I shouldn’t have to play the game. I’m better than that. I’m a sincere and genuine type of person.’ But on one level, dating is a game, even though the purpose of the game is to find someone to form a loving relationship with. One rule of the game is that some people are the pursuers and other people are the ones who get...

Just read the part in the Betsy books where Betsy tried to put on airs and act mysterious and dramatic to attract the attentions of the haughty Phil Brandish who owns the high school’s only auto. Betsy starts calling herself Betsye, wearing lots of Jockey Club perfume and the color green for jealousy, and only acting how she thinks Phil would want her to act. Phil and Betsye go out for a...

Too Many Dicks on the Dance Floor
Went on a date tonight. Just got home. 4:04. I cycled like a something up the west side highway. It was empty, ghostly and scary. I looked back to see if I had pursuers. I hoped I cycled too fast to be of interest to any. My date was disappointing. I thought it was going well. I liked him and we had a lot in common. But he told me he was seeing another girl too. I ended up feeling really angry at...

Eternal Spring
I walked through the park to visit the paintings in the Met today. I noticed that all the paintings in the met seem to be about springtime—flowers, picnics, budding trees, gardens, sitting in the sun. Everyone is inspired by springtime. It felt like springtime inside and outside. Here are some of my new favorites I noticed today: Lady Elizabeth Hamilton by George Romney (I like her...

Even Rock Hudson Lost His Heart to Doris Day
A review of the movie Pillow Talk with Rock Hudson and Doris Day: So SEXIST!!! The fifties were ridiculous. I enjoyed the movie, but looking at it another way, I am really quite disgusted and so glad not to live in even the recent past when every interaction with a man meant you might have to fight a rapist. I recently watched part of Private Benjamin on Netflix made in 1980 and was shocked by...

1. I bought a scale that automatically sends your weight to a website and tracks and graphs it for you.  2. I saw a person the likes of which I had never seen before. He was out about 7 feet from the curb, in the street, doing this jerky dance. It was haunting. It reminded me of a shaman or a witch doctor. It reminded me of a zombie movie, though I’ve only seen a parody of one. The person...

The Cherry Tree  Loveliest of trees, the cherry now Is hung with bloom along the bough, And stands about the woodland ride Wearing white for Eastertide. Now, of my three score years and ten, Twenty will not come again, And take from seventy springs a score, It only leaves me fifty more. And since to look at things in bloom Fifty springs are little room, About the woodlands I will go To see the...

Life isn’t divided into genres. It’s a horrifying, romantic, tragic, comical, science-fiction cowboy detective novel. You know, with a bit of pornography if you’re lucky. —Alan Moore I saw this on an inspirational greeting card today and thought it was very profound. Of course, they left off the last sentence, which I found when I googled it.

Someone on the A train today was doing a shame attacking exercise right out of the book—calling out the names of the subway stops. I asked him what he was doing and then confirmed!!! It was awesome!! I told him he was so brave, doing my part to pass on the typical burnsian experience.

Perfect Poem
Nothing Gold Can Stay Nature’s first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf’s a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief, So dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay. I miss Henry so much today.

Against Sundials The gods confound the man who first found out How to distinguish hours! Confound him, too, Who in this place set up a sundial, To cut and hack my days so wretchedly Into small portions! When I was a boy, My belly was my sundial -- one surer, Truer, and more exact than any of them. This dial told me when 'twas proper time To go to dinner, when I had aught to eat; But...

A little update: 1. The person who stopped me on the street turned out to be insane. I feel I have learned my lesson on this one, and will stop giving out my number to randoms who ask for it. It is very gratifying to the ego, but maybe by now I have had enough gratification and I do not have to keep asking “mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all” because the answer...
