cool article on rookie: girl gangs

Dang, how does Rookie Magazine stay so consistently great. They always have such unique ideas for articles. Also very good inspiring monthly themes the content is based around. November’s theme was girl gang. There were a lot of cool stories about good girl gangs (groups of friends) and girl gangs gone wrong (bullying). also a lot about forming your own band, etc.

Having a group of girl friends is so important. School is great because by spending so much time in the same place you really get to know people and find your clan.

I have a couple girl gangs throughout the years. I was in a girl gang at 5-6, senior year in highschool, and freshman year in college. That was so much fun.

Anyway, in this rookie articles, girls sent in pics of their groups of friends. I love how different they all are, and how candid. Some of the girl gangs pictured in the article were so intimidating i couldn’t even share their photos on my blog. girl gangs can be scary.

well i love this concept. pics of people. check out the whole article, with telling captions underneath most of the pics on rookie.

Here are a couple photos from an impromptu girl gang shoot from last week when my friends and I accidentally wore matching outfits. Actually, that happens a lot. Our names are Vivian, Joyce, and Caroline. Vivian

This is an old photo and a new photo. The sister with red hair in the middle of the current photo is Ruth. She's the oldest of the three of us. Anna is on the right and I am on the left. I'm the youngest. Our dynamic is interesting, because we have four other siblings above us, but we have always sort of been a separate unit. When we were having secret meetings in our room and creating our own secret garden in the backyard the older sibs were out experimenting with drugs and Satanism. Just kidding about the Satanism part. Secret Sister Club is alive and well, though it takes a different form these days because both of my sisters are married with families now. Ruth is 29, Anna is 26, and I am 24. Sisters forever!

These are some photos of me and my collaborator, Christine. We call ourselves the Basketball Team. We are a girl gang. Sophie
